It is very hard to determine initially whether or not a person is suffering from genital warts. Usually, they tend to resemble small, white or pink bumps. They are called genital warts because in most cases they tend to resemble harmless warts than people get on their fingers. What do Genital Warts look like in Men?
Men who are suffering from HPV can get genital warts either on their scrotum or on their penis, around their anus or even in their urethra. Genital warts that are present on the penis usually tend to be smooth on top, but the ones that erupt around the anus are generally rough and have projections that protrude out like fingers. Some genital warts give off a pearly sheen but are usually darker in color and resemble cauliflowers. In most cases, genital warts tend to stand well off the skin, but there have been cases where they are only slightly elevated. In most cases, it is very hard to detect a single genital wart or a cluster of them, as they tend to hide under the pubic hair.
What do Genital Warts look like in Women?
For women, genital warts look very similar to those that men get. The only difference being that they are more likely to form around the vagina because of the abundance of moisture present there. If these genital warts form on the outer layers of the vagina, then it is important to consult with your gynecologist to check and see if there are any more of these growths inside the cervix, vagina or anorectal areas. For women though, these genital warts can sometimes lead to very serious health problems like cervical cancer, so it is very important to get it examined and treated immediately by your doctor.
If you suspect that you have genital warts, then it is always wise to go to a doctor for help instead of trying to cure it yourself. Yes, genital warts are indeed a scary sight, but only a doctor can determine whether or not what you have is a genital wart or not.
However, even experts on the subject and good doctors can have trouble finding genital warts, because some of them are very tiny. Sometimes, it is very hard to distinguish warts from abrasions, bumps or even pinched skin. One way that most doctors determine whether it is a genital wart is to apply acetic acid on the affected area. In doing so, the genital warts will all turn white. Another way of checking for genital warts is by using a colposcope, which is a lens very similar to a telescope. These are two of the main methods used to determine if bumps on the genitalia are genital warts.
In case, you happen to be suffering from genital warts, then getting immediate treatment and the right cure is the only way out. But, if you are hell bent on finding out what genital warts look like, then browse the net – but mind you, it isn’t a pretty sight!
